Frequently Asked Questions
about IconForge and ActivIcons
Q: How may I remove the colored squares that are behind the text under my desktop icons? I want may wallpaper to show through.
- If you are using Windows 95, 98, ME, NT or 2000, you can make the icon labels transparent using our ActivIcons utility...
- in ActivIcons, go to the Interface screen;
- place a mark in the Transparent checkbox which is next to the Set desktop icon text background color to option.
- Note that ActivIcons must be running to set the transparency. You can have ActivIcons automatically load when you start your system by going to the settings on its Interface screen.
- right-click the desktop;
- choose "Properties";
- go to the "Desktop" tab;
- click the "Customize Desktop" button;
- go to the "Web" tab and disable both options;
- run Windows Explorer;
- right-click on "My Computer";
- choose "Properties";
- go to the "Advanced" tab;
- click the Settings button under the "Performance" section;
- checkmark the "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" option.
